Johan van Bussel is head of the department healthdata.be of the Belgian Scientific Institute Public Health. In 2009, he graduated from the Leuven International Doctoral School of Biomedical Sciences as Doctor in Biomedical Sciences. The same year, he joined the Belgian Scientific Institute Public Health as a senior researcher. In 2010 he became head of the Belgian Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, a partner of the European agency. In 2014, he started the healthdata.be project, funded by the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (NIHDI). The objectives of the project are the rationalization, standardization and automation of research data flows in Belgian health care. Johan van Bussel also acts as the national coordinator of Action point 18 (“Standardization of patient registries”) of the National Action Plan eHealth 2013-2018.
